What an ID camp actually is

Four things worth knowing before you spend a weekend and a registration fee.

The staff running it is the staff recruiting you

A college program hosts its own camp, on its own campus, and its own coaches run the sessions. That is the whole point: the people evaluating you are the ones who decide their roster — not scouts, not a third-party organizer passing names along.

It is a normal step, not a shortcut

For most families an ID camp is simply how contact with a program gets started. Going to one does not make you a recruit, and skipping one does not end anything — but it is a normal part of the process, not an edge case.

Not a youth or day camp

ID camps are for high-school athletes and college transfers, roughly ages 14 to 22. Youth and day camps — the summer programs a school runs for younger kids — are a different product, and we filter them out before a camp is counted here.

Not a showcase or a tournament

A showcase puts many programs in front of many players, and you hope the right coach is on your sideline. An ID camp puts you in front of one staff, on their field, for a day or two — far fewer coaches, far more minutes in front of them.
