Men's Soccer recruiting · updated November 2026
Are men's soccer ID camps worth it?
Yes, when the camp is run by a program you actually want and the coaches who recruit your position are on the field. Men's soccer rosters are a third international and lean on the transfer portal, so a program's own ID camp is where a domestic player who is not in an academy gets a real look - and it matters most at D2, D3 and NAIA, where most of the spots are.
What a men's soccer camp does
Coaches evaluate most men's soccer players at MLS NEXT and ECNL Boys events, where Power-conference staffs spend most of their evaluation time; the program's own camp is the longer, closer look at the ones already on a list - and the only in-person look allowed before June 15 after sophomore year.
When it is not worth it
A mass invitation is marketing, not interest: programs email camp invitations to every name on a purchased list. A camp is worth the money when you have written to the staff first and heard something back, when the head coach or your position coach will be on the field, and when you would be happy to play there. Skip camps at schools you would not attend, and skip any camp that will not say who is coaching it.
The longer answer, with the three rules we use.
Pick the camp, then prepare
Every verified men's soccer camp lists the date, price, ages and registration link; the school pages show what each program has run before. Email the staff before you go - the template is here.
FAQ
Men's Soccer are camps worth it?, answered
Are men's soccer ID camps worth it?
Yes, when the camp is run by a program you want and the coaches who recruit your position are on the field. A mass invitation on its own is not a reason to go.
Is a camp invitation a sign of interest?
Not by itself. Programs send camp invitations to every name on a purchased list. Interest is a personal reply to your email or a coach who already knows your name when you arrive.
Should I go to a men's soccer showcase or a school's own camp?
Both do different jobs. Coaches evaluate most players at MLS NEXT and ECNL Boys events, where Power-conference staffs spend most of their evaluation time; a program's own camp is the close look at a player already on its list, and the one place a staff can see you in person before June 15 after sophomore year.
